Diesel Servicing & Repairs

Built for Work, Serviced Accordingly

Diesel utes and 4WDs get worked harder than most petrol cars, and they're far less forgiving about service intervals. Fuel contamination, blocked filters and DPF problems often trace back to the same root cause, which is servicing that's been stretched a bit too far. At Advanced Automotive Services, we handle diesel servicing and repairs for utes, 4WDs and light commercials, from filters and fluids through to fuel system faults and drivability complaints. Water in diesel does expensive damage quickly, so fuel filtration gets proper attention rather than a quick look. Injectors are a common culprit when a motor runs rough, and we test and clean those in-house. Book in on (07) 4033 6418 at our workshop in Cairns.

Where Diesels Need Extra Attention

A diesel service covers the same ground as a petrol one, plus a few areas that only apply to compression ignition engines.

  • Fuel filtration. Diesel systems run at extremely high pressure and rely on clean fuel to survive. Water traps and filters need draining and changing on schedule, not when a warning appears.
  • Diesel particulate filters. A DPF needs sustained highway running to regenerate properly. Vehicles used only for short trips tend to block up and eventually need forced regeneration or removal for cleaning.
  • Glow plugs. Hard starting, particularly once the engine has cooled, often traces back to failed glow plugs. They're straightforward to test.
  • Turbochargers and intercoolers. Oil carryover and boost leaks reduce power and increase smoke. We check the intake side as part of diagnosing any performance complaint.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Diesel fuel systems operate at pressures that make even small contaminants destructive to injectors and pumps. The filter is the only thing standing between the tank and components built to very fine tolerances.

Short trips prevent the exhaust reaching the temperature needed for the filter to burn off accumulated soot. Over time the soot builds up faster than it can be cleared.

The core items overlap, but diesels add fuel water separators, different oil specifications and emissions components such as the DPF and EGR system. Service intervals are often shorter as well.
